Man accused of killing wife in 2006 headed to court ahead of upcoming trial

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Keith Comfort will have a pre-trial hearing on Friday at 1:30 p.m. before his jury trial on Monday morning at the Boone County Courthouse. Comfort is charged with killing his wife in 2006.

According to court documents, in 2019, authorities say Comfort admitted to police in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin that he killed his wife Megan Shultz following a phone call he received from her in August of 2006.

Comfort told police Shultz told him she was involved in a drug deal and had "ripped someone off" according to court documents.

Documents say Comfort said when he arrived at their Columbia apartment on Amelia Street, Shultz was frantic and swinging her arms.

Comfort then told police he strangled Shultz, put her body in a garbage bag, and put her in the dumpster at the apartment complex.

Over a decade later, Columbia Police confirmed finding Shultz's remains in a landfill following a search in 2019.

Comfort remains in the Boone County Jail on a $5 million bond.
