Grocery prices continue to rise since last Memorial Day Weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

As consumers prepare for the holiday weekend, local grocery stores have seen an increase in certain products purchased, even with prices continuously rising.

A worker at Mosers in Columbia told ABC 17 News that a big product being purchased this weekend is meat, along with any food that can be cooked on a grill.

According to the Consumer Price Index, barbecue essentials like steak and ground beef have risen 11.8% and 14.8% respectively. Hot dogs are 7% more expensive compared to last year, and cheese is around 6% more expensive.

Although, rising prices were not stopping people from purchasing the essentials for this weekend. Stores were still busy as customers were stocking up on last minute groceries in preparation for Memorial day Monday.

Amidst the rising prices, many stores in Columbia are offering discounts on products largely purchased during Memorial Day Weekend.
