Jefferson City School Board to swear in members and discuss district transportation

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Thursday, elected members of the Jefferson City Board of Education are set to officially join the district's leadership.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at JCPS Education Center at 204 Dix Road in Jefferson City.

Scott Hovis and Brad Bates are two members who will return for another term after being elected in April's election. The newest to the board would be Suzanne Luther, who is a former Jefferson City and Eldon Teacher.

The board also looks to discuss its extension with the First Student, a school bus service provider.

According to agenda items, the Jefferson City Board of Education is looking to extend its contract for about another year, commencing July 1, 2023, and continuing through June 30, 2024.

In addition, pricing for bus service would be going up by 20% and drivers and monitors will also get a $2.00 an-hour increase, with access to medical benefits and matched contributions to retirement benefits.

The extension discussion comes less than two months after a driver with First Student was arrested in Cole County and charged with several counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

However, JC Schools says the driver won't be with the district anymore.

Thursday's meeting is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
