Two incumbents win Jefferson City Board of Education seats

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Board president Scott Hovis was among the three winners for the Jefferson City Board of Education on Tuesday.

Five candidates were listed on Tuesday's ballots for three seats. Hovis and fellow incumbent Brad Bates took the most votes, with Suzanne Luther also winning a spot on the board.

Michael Harvey and Tapiwa 'Felix' Madondo were the other candidates in the race.

Incumbent Lori Massman is not running again for her seat.

Hovis was chosen as the board’s president in April 2022 after two other members stepped down. He also has served as the Executive Director of the Missouri Golf Association since 2005.

Bates was also elected to the board back in 2020. According to his Jefferson City School District bio, he also serves as the Executive Director of the Missouri Beer Wholesalers Association and terms as the Commissioner for the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation.

The Jefferson City National Education Association endorsed Bates and Luther for election. Luther is a former Jefferson City and Eldon teacher. Luther’s watch party is a joint event with Alicia Edwards and Treaka Young, who are both running for Jefferson City Council.

Madondo is the current general services coordinator for the Missouri Lottery Commission.

Harvey has a background in finance and public service. He has served on the Cole County Republican Central Committee and four terms as a former First Ward councilman.
