COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 12-year-old girl suffered moderate injuries Wednesday after she was hit by the dolly of a tow truck on McGee Road, west of Route B, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The 2022 Dodge 4500 was parked on the shoulder of McGee Road.

The girl stood near the front passenger side of the towed vehicle, while getting items from inside the vehicle.

The driver – Jeffery Stoneking, 38, of Columbia -- failed to see the girl and began to drive.

The injury occurred as the girl was hit by the dolly, attached to the towed vehicle's right rear tire. After realizing what happened, Stoneking immediately stopped, according to the crash report.

The girl was driven to University Hospital in a private vehicle.
