Columbia Board of Education to swear in members, discuss school upgrades and salaries
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
On Monday, The Columbia Board of Education is set to swear in members who were elected during the April 4 election.
The board also has plans to discuss some main agenda items during their meeting on Monday.
New board members April Ferrao, Paul Harper, and John Lyman will be sworn in at 6:30 p.m. during a "reorganization" meeting. Members will also elect a new president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.
The new board members are filling the seats of current board president David Seamon, Vice President Chris Horn, and member Helen Wade.
Farrao, Harper, and Lyman will be sworn in by Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Brian Yearwood.
The regular session will begin at 6:45 p.m. following the "reorganization" meeting.
New members will discuss security upgrades at several schools and present a compensation update that includes teachers' and other employees' salaries.
Based on the agenda, the Columbia Board of Education is looking to upgrade the entrances at multiple schools within the district including Fairview, Paxton Keely, Alpha Hart, West Middle, Mill Creek & the Early Childhood Discovery Center.
According to the compensation update presentation, The Columbia Board has budgeted at least $7 million for increased salaries, benefits for experience, and salary schedule improvement.
The regular session and reorganization meeting are scheduled at the Ashlin Administration Building on West Worley St.
