Newly elected Columbia Board of Education members to be sworn in Monday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Monday, April 10, the Columbia Board of Education will meet for a "reorganization meeting" where 3 new board members are getting sworn in by Columbia Public Schools superintendent, Brian Yearwood.

The new members are April Ferrao, Paul Harper and John Lyman. They are filling the seats of current board president, David Seamon, Vice President Chris Horn and member Helen Wade. When speaking with Paul Harper he said that the chance to be on the school board is "kind of like coming home"

"I started out as a teacher, 20 years as an attorney, this is almost like coming home for me to be on the school board because I started out in education and quite frankly my goal is to stay on the school board for the next several cycles if possible." He said.

During the reorganization meeting, members will also elect a new president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. The regular session will immediately follow, where the compensation update will be discussed, something that was a major platform Harper ran on.

The compensation update will include the financial projections for increased salaries and benefits for teachers and administration of the school district.

The new members will be sworn in at 6:30 p.m. and the regular session will follow at 6:45 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Columbia Public School District Neil C. Aslin Administration Building.
