MU Health Care to host a safety course for older drivers
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
On Monday morning, MU Health Care is hosting 'Keep Your Keys', a free driver safety course aimed at helping drivers 55 and older stay safe and alert on the roads.
MU Health Care is scheduled to hold two sessions Monday and says everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
The first session will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Columbia Senior Activity Center in Columbia. The second session is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Osage Beach Senior Center at 5709A Osage Beach Pkwy, Osage Beach, MO 65065.
MU Health Care says those in attendance will learn how to make informed decisions about their current driving status, as well as stay medically and physically fit to drive.
The program's goal is to reduce motor vehicle and motorcycle crashes involving drivers 55 and older through education and prevention methods.
Monday's course will also cover the medical, cognitive, and visual symptoms that impair driving. MU Health Care also says those in attendance will receive a fit-to-drive booklet and a medication file of life, that will give first responders medical information in the event you aren't able to.
MU Health Care says they started 'Keep Your Keys' back in 2015 and it's fully funded through a MoDOT highway safety grant.
Since the start of the program, there have been 270 classes held and have reached over four thousand Missouri citizens according to MU Health Care.
