Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri to host 16th annual one-for-one food drive
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri will host the 16th annual One-for-One Holiday Food and Fund Drive on Wednesday.
Anyone who wants to donate can stop at the parking lot at the Columbia Mall or at Buchheit of Jefferson City (formerly Orscheln Farm & Home) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The food bank says $25 will help provide at least 100 meals to communities across Mid-Missouri. According to the organization, the most needed items include canned meat, fruit, peanut butter, boxed meals, and cereal.
Organizers ask those who donate to avoid anything with glass packaging. The food bank is seeing an increase in the need for food at its pantry in Boone County.
In total, the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri covers 32 counties. The organization is one of six food banks in Missouri and the only one in the state to provide food to partner agencies at no cost.
Anyone who donates Wednesday is part of the food bank's distribution of more than 30 million pounds of food to communities each year. That's about 23 million meals across the Mid-Missouri area.
