Boone, Cole counties to hold meetings about proposed budgets

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. and COLE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Commission plans to hear feedback Tuesday night about the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023.

Commissioners are scheduled to hold a public hearing for the nearly $123 million budget at 7 p.m.

Boone County plans to prioritize five items next year, according to the budget. That includes investments into road and bridge and law enforcement services funds.

Other investments include workforce retention improvements, reducing turnover, and lowering the number of open positions. Commissioners plan to address staffing needs in county offices, including road and bridge, children's services, 911 emergency management, and drug court.

The budget for the expected workforce improvements is around $2,843,000.

In Cole County, commissioners plan to hold a budget hearing Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Several county leaders, including parks and recreation, the treasurer, and emergency management, plan to speak at the hearing.

In October, Cole County leaders met about the budget at the State of the City and County meeting in Jefferson City. That included conversations about breaking ground on a new emergency service station, more courtroom space, and employee retention.

The Cole County Commission also plans to hold hearings about the more than $115 million budget on Wednesday and Thursday.
