Firefighters respond to outside fire in south Columbia
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Firefighters have contained an outside fire that broke out in a wooded area in south Columbia Monday morning.
At least five Columbia Fire Department and Boone County Fire Protection District vehicles responded to the area near Manhanttan Drive and Norman Drive at about 9 a.m. Crews at the scene tell ABC 17 News that firefighters have been working to contain the fire for several hours.
News crews also say they saw several firefighter with blowers working the area of the fire. Firefighters were called back to the area a couple of hours later because of smoldering brush near a residence.
Boone County Joint Communications warned drivers in south Columbia about smoke from the fire.

Firefighters at the scene Monday morning said they were dealing with a large fire but there were no reports of injuries or damage. The fire department also responded to the same area Friday and Saturday nights.
Columbia fire acting Chief Clayton Farr Jr. says in the last three days, there have been 80 acres of brush involved in fires due to weather conditions.
"Today, there is a 100% chance of rain as well as a 60% percent chance tomorrow. So we believe that rain would really wet the area down and prevent any further spread of the fire
