Man accused of pushing woman off bridge had previous violent charges
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ.)
The suspect who is charged with the murder of a Columbia woman was released from prison just a few months ago.
Jessie Williams, 31, is accused of pushing Kaylen Schmit off a Highway 63 bridge and killing her Tuesday evening.
Schmit, 24, fell 38 feet into a wooded area and died hours later at a hospital.
Williams has been charged with violent crime before, including stabbing an elderly homeless person and attacking and handcuffing himself to a police officer.
ABC17 has requested reports from the parole board that oversaw Williams between 2019-22.
It's expected to take 48 hours for William's parole history to come back in so as soon as ABC17 obtains William's parole history, we'll take a deeper look into why he was put on parole.
Parole hearings are a way for the board to meet with the offender, review the offense and discuss what the board expects from the offender before release.
At the hearing, the board will review the offender's institutional conduct and adjustment, programs the offender has completed or needs to complete, and any other issues. In Missouri, parole hearings could result in another hearing in one-to-five years, or the offender may be scheduled for a future release date.
