CFD union seeks more communication with city during fire chief selection process
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The union representing the Columbia Fire Department is speaking out Wednesday, saying there has been a lack of communication from the city manager on the process of hiring a new fire chief.
Zack Privette -- president of the Columbia Professional Fire Fighters -- said since the city named the three finalists for the new fire chief position in August, there has been little-to-no communication with the union.
"Some communication is all we've asked for and some collaboration," Privette said. "We as a department haven't heard anything from the city manager. I've reached out on multiple occasions trying to get information from him."
In August, the city announced the three fire chief finalists: Brian Dunn, Clayton Farr Jr. and Christopher Riley. Privette said that was the last time the department received any information on the hiring process.
"I can't imagine it would take two months from the day you announce the finalists to now to get to this point," Privette said.
City officials said the city is currently in negotiations with a candidate.
"We are currently in negotiations with a candidate. This process can take time while the candidate determines if this position is the right fit for them, and the timeline of any search is subject to change during the negotiation process," city spokeswoman Sydney Olsen said.
