CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) — A 29-year-old Missouri man has been sentenced to life plus another 40 years in prison for killing a suburban St. Louis police officer in 2019. Bonette Meeks was sentenced Wednesday in the death of North County Police Cooperative Officer Michael Langsdorf. Meeks was convicted in June of second-degree murder and three other counts in Langsdorf’s death. Prosecutors said Meeks was trying to cash a stolen check when Langsdorf arrived to investigate and that he shot the officer as they struggled. Defense attorneys asked for a 10-year sentence. Prosecutors sought two life sentences plus 17 years.
