Man sentenced to four years in prison for resisting arrest; other charges dropped in Nov. downtown Columbia shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man charged in a downtown Columbia shooting is sentenced to four years in prison for resisting arrest in connection with the Nov. 14 shooting near Vibez Lounge.
The Boone County Prosecutor's Office also dropped one count of assault and another for armed criminal action against Todd Nesbitt Jr., 28, of Columbia after the shooting in November left five hurt and one person dead.
Columbia police officers responded to the shooting near Vibez Lounge around 3 a.m. on Nov. 14. Police reported officers saw two people shoot at each other. One of the men started to run south on N. Fifth Street and fired a gun north into a crowd of people, according to police.
Two officers returned fire with their guns, killing one of the suspects, Quillian Jacobs. The other suspect, Nesbitt Jr., ran from the scene.
Police later arrested Nesbitt Jr. at an apartment building in Columbia. Nesbitt Jr. is accused of jumping out of a third-story window before he was arrested by officers. Prosecutors charged Nesbitt Jr. with resisting arrest after police caught him.
Nesbitt is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.
Both court hearings for Nesbitt are scheduled to start Monday at 2:30 p.m.
