Man arrested after investigators recover drugs, weapons from Jefferson City home

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man faces possible charges after investigators searched a Jefferson City home on Wednesday morning.

Investigators executed a narcotics search warrant just before 9:45 a.m. at a home in the 700 block of Jackson Street, according to the Jefferson City Police Department. Police said investigators found suspected heroin, marijuana, and weapons inside the home.

A 49-year-old man was taken into custody on possible charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felon, trafficking drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

"The person that was taken into custody is prohibited from having firearms so, at this point, it's not at the point where an immediate stolen hit was confirmed or anything like that but that is a part of the overall investigation, they'll be checked to see if they were stolen. They'll be checked to see if they were functioning.", said Jefferson City's Lt. David Williams.

The name of the man, the amounts of drugs found, or the weapons discovered in the home weren't immediately available.

For now, police can't say what the suspect will be charged with, but Lt. Williams did confirm the suspect was prohibited from having firearms.

"Part of the investigation will be to determine if previous court rulings made them a prohibited person, so it could be anything. There's not a set charge that it does amount to. It has to be a felony which would make them a prohibited person so that's all things that will come out of an investigation", said Lt. Williams.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call the Jefferson City Police Department.
