Columbia Board of Education to hold budget hearing Wednesday
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia Board of Education is set to hold a budget hearing for the upcoming 2022-23 school year Wednesday night.
Board members plan to meet at Columbia Public Schools' administration building Wednesday at 6 p.m. The school district's proposed budget includes pay increases for all employees.
These increases include:
- Teachers - $1,200 base pay increase
- Coaches and Trainers - $1,250 base pay increase
- Counselors and Social Workers - $1,000 base pay increase
- Nurses - $700 base pay increase
- Therapists - $900 base pay increase
- Custodians - $1.15 per hour increase
In total, the board of education allocated $7.08 million in increases for current employee compensation in the 2022-2023 proposed budget. The goal, according to the proposed budget, is to recruit and retain quality personnel.
Teachers and other employees will also have the opportunity for other improvements in salary based on continued education.
The proposed budget included a statement from Superintendent Brian Yearwood who said, "This budget, and the decision making and planning behind it, is structured to support these goals so that we may attain the vision, mission, and purpose of the school district."
"We will continue to remain focused on the goal of putting our scholars first with an emphasis on growth, innovation, and achievement," said Yearwood.
