MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police believe a lightning strike started an overnight house fire in Mexico, Missouri.

Emergency crews responded to the home in the 700 block of W. Breckenridge Street just before 2 a.m., according to the Mexico Public Safety Department. Officers said crews found the fire burning in a wall of an upstairs bedroom near some wiring.

The fire caused a significant amount of damage to the wall but the rest of the home received little damage. Police said an overnight lightning strike near the home disabled an electric transformer, which caused the fire.

No one was hurt, according to the police department.
