Jefferson City Police Department adds incentives to bring potential officers in

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

For some time now, the Jefferson City Police Department has struggled to fill vacant officer positions, but the department was recently given resources to help bring employees in.

The Jefferson City Police Department confirmed some incentives that will be included for new hires.

Some perks potential candidates could look forward to are tuition reimbursements and even heavy sign-on bonuses for certain positions.

Last year, the Jefferson City Police Department fought to add hiring incentives to attract more employees.

Almost a year later the department was able to do just that, but the salary is still making it difficult to attract new candidates, especially with other competitive salaries nearby.

The salary for a police officer in Jefferson City is currently close to $42,000 but the rates are slightly higher at the Columbia Police Department standing at a minimum of $47,000.

For now, Lt. David Williams who works for the Jefferson City Police Department can't comment on a pay increase, he says this is in the hands of the city council.

However, Lt. Williams says the department currently has a few incentives to offer. This includes sign-on bonuses ranging from as little as $2,500 to as much as $10,000.

Keep in mind, that these incentives are only given out to particular positions such as Missouri post-certified police officers and communication operators.
