Buying store brand items compared to name brand to save as inflation hits record high

Trips to the grocery store continue to cost more than normal as inflation hit a record high of 8.5% in March.
According to Trading Economics, that is the highest increase since December 1981.
According to Consumer Price Index, from February of last year to February of 2022 food prices went up 7.9%. Leaving the largest 12-month increase since July 1981.
To save money at the grocery store, choosing to grab the store brand version of your favorite name brand can help, even on your everyday items.
One gallon of Central two percent reduced-fat milk cost $4.64. Compared to Schnucks one gallon of two percent reduced-fat milk costs $3.29, saving you $1.35 by buying the store brand of milk.
Bacon has also increased due to inflation. You can save close to $3 buying Schnucks store brand of bacon that cost $5.99 compared to the name brand Hormel priced at $9.49.
You would save roughly $3.50 by purchasing the name-brand pack of bacon.
A pack of 12 large grade A eggs by the brand Egglands best runs for $3.99. While Schnucks brand of 12 large grade A eggs cost less than two dollars at $1.89, saving you about $2.10.
Consumers can also save by using smartphone apps at the grocery store.
Checkout 51, is available to download for free. The app allows users to select a grocery store and see the current offers available. Once they buy something on that list they'll get cashback.
The app has a built-in camera that allows users to take pictures of their receipts to compare what was bought on the receipt to the list made within the app. Once a user gets to $20 in their account they can cash out. New deals are updated every Thursday morning and the app also offers cashback on gas.
Another grocery-saving app is Fetch Rewards. The apps allows users to scan their receipts in the app from any grocery store and earn points. Once they hit 3,000 points users can redeem the points by getting a gift card from dozens of major retailers such as Target, Walmart, Amazon and Petco. The "Special Offers" tab has a list of the most valuable deals but users can earn a minimum of 25 points per receipt without those offers.
