WINTER WEATHER UPDATES: Highway patrol reports one injury in Mid-Missouri crashes

2:30 p.m.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers in Mid-Missouri have been sent to just one crash on state highways since the storm began.

The patrol's Troop F said on Twitter at about 2 p.m. that troopers had worked just one injury crash but were sent to 103 calls since 6 a.m., with 56 stranded drivers and 20 crashes that didn't involve injuries. The one injury crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Interstate 70 in Callaway County, according to a patrol online crash report. A 22-year-old woman from Montgomery City suffered minor injuries when her car went off the road and crashed into a ditch.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reported all major state highways in Central Missouri were covered. About an inch of ice and another 3 inches of snow had been measured in Columbia by Thursday afternoon. More snow was expected later in the day.

MoDOT also reported at about 2:30 p.m. that westbound lanes of I-70 near Midway had reopened.

2:10 p.m.

A jackknifed tractor-trailer has stalled traffic on Interstate 70 westbound west of Columbia.

Traffic was not moving at about 2 p.m. The Missouri Department of Transportation's traveler information map said the closure might last an hour and started about 1:30 p.m.

Traffic was being diverted onto Highway 40, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

12:25 p.m.

The city of Columbia is asking drivers to not park on snow priority routes.

Drivers are asked to move their vehicles from first and second-priority routes to allow for plow truck drivers to get through those areas. The city identifies priority snow routes with red, white, or blue signs.

Drivers risk getting ticketed and towed at their own expense if their vehicles aren't moved from those areas.

The Columbia Police Department is also operating under its delayed crash report protocol.

Police officers ask drivers involved in minor crashes with no injuries to exchange information and report the crash online.

11:30 a.m.

American Airlines outbound flights at the Columbia Regional Airport were canceled Thursday and Columbia city buses were not running as continuing snowfall covered a layer of sleet and ice already on the ground.

Airport management said evening arrivals are still scheduled as normal.

Go COMO, the City of Columbia's bus service, said Thursday morning that it will cancel its routes for the rest of the day.

And emergency dispatchers said a stalled vehicle near Sorrels Overpass in Columbia was slowing traffic on westbound Interstate 70. Details about the incident weren't immediately available but a traffic camera showed vehicles at a standstill in the westbound lanes.

9:35 a.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is responding to a crash Thursday morning on Interstate 70 in Cooper County.

Troopers said the crash happened in the westbound lanes near mile-marker 91. Injuries were also reported but specific conditions were not immediately available, according to a Twitter post from the highway patrol.

MoDOT reported at 9:30 a.m. drivers should expect to find delays in the westbound lanes for the next hour.

8:50 a.m.

MU Health Care says it is closing its clinics at 10 a.m. Thursday because of travel conditions. Roads remain covered in ice around the area.

8:30 a.m.

Troopers in the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop F, which covers much of Mid-Missouri, had been sent to 19 calls by about 8 a.m. Thursday as ice and snow continued to fall.

The agency said troopers helped nine stranded drivers and worked six crashes. The Missouri Department of Transportation's traveler map showed state roads around the area were covered, including main thoroughfares such as Interstate 70, Highway 63 and Highway 54.

Sleet was falling on Columbia at about 8 a.m. and was beginning its change over to snow. The snow was expected to last into the afternoon.

Parts of Mid-Missouri including Boone, Howard and Randolph counties remained under a winter storm warning until 9 p.m. Thursday, with up to 8 inches of snow expected on top of the layer of ice already covering the ground.

A 35-member Columbia Public Works plow crew was working Thursday morning to help make roads easier to drive on. Those crews will be focused on the city's priority routes amid expected heavy snowfall, according to a news release.

7:50 a.m.:

MoDOT continues to report poor road conditions across Mid-Missouri Thursday morning.

Parts of Interstate 70, Highway 63, Highway 54, and other roads are covered with ice and snow, according to the department's Traveler Information Map website.

An ABC 17 News crew in Moberly reported a wintry mix started to fall in the city around 7:30 a.m.

At least one flight to Columbia Regional Airport has been canceled for Thursday. The airport's spokesman couldn't confirm if the cancellation was weather-related.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reported poor road conditions early Thursday morning on Highway 63 north of Moberly.

Around 5:25 a.m., the MoDOT Traveler Information Map website showed the highway is partly-covered with ice and snow. MoDOT also reported poor road conditions on Highway 36 in and around Macon.

The Boone County Road and Bridge Department told ABC 17 News a seven-person crew is pre-treating roads with salt on Thursday morning. Another 24-person crew is expected to start working at 7 a.m.

Jamestown C-I Schools, Morgan County R-I (Stover) Schools, and Maries County R-I (Vienna) Schools all canceled classes for the day on Thursday morning. Maries County R-II (Belle) Schools switched to AMI learning for Thursday.
