Jefferson City School District announces Friday closure
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Jefferson City School District will be closed on Friday due to the winter weather and unsafe travel conditions.
The Moberly School District is reporting that due to poor driving conditions the district will have alternative methods of instruction for Friday.
Some of Mid-Missouri's smaller, more rural districts have called off classes for Friday amid snow- and ice-covered roads, while the University of Missouri plans to return to full, in-person classes.
Sturgeon, Buncton, New Franklin, Fayette and Northeast Randolph were among the schools Thursday that had already called off Friday classes or planned to hold classes virtually. Central Methodist University in Fayette and Columbia College said they plan to conduct classes remotely.
Snowfall totals in Mid-Missouri ranged from 2.5 inches to 5 inches by late afternoon, with a layer of ice underneath that. Columbia plow crews were concentrating only on the most heavily traveled roads and the Missouri Department of Transportation's traveler information map showed state highways across the region covered in snow.
More snow was expected to fall before the system moves out of the area.
