Organizations set to provide Thanksgiving meals to those in need

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Several organizations across Mid-Missouri are providing meals to people in need next week.

Immaculate Conception in Jefferson City will be providing Thanksgiving meals and a place to eat on Thanksgiving.

Michael Schnieders started Immaculate Conception's Thanksgiving meal tradition 13 years ago. He said he was inspired to start the tradition at his church after he and his family helped at Salvation Army many years ago.

"We just took a look around at the community that Immaculate Conception resides in and we thought, you know I think there is the need right here in our local community, so we decided to go ahead and start a meal of our own," Schnieders said.

Immaculate Conception will be serving meals at its school and giving people the choice of dining in, carry out or delivery.

Immaculate Conception asks that people call the church at 573-635-6143. Families who need 10 or more meals are asked to pick up their food.

Immaculate Conception will also have someone serve the same Thanksgiving meal to residents who live in Dulle and Hamilton Tower Apartments in Jefferson City. That meal will take place in the community room.

Immaculate Conception said parish families will be serving and cooking the food. Meals will be not be limited to anyone attending.

Powerhouse Community Development (PCD) in Columbia will also give away turkey boxes Saturday on the east side of Parkade plaza. The box will include all the items needed to make a Thanksgiving dinner.

You can enjoy a hot Thanksgiving meal with PCD on Thanksgiving Day at the Senior Activity Center on the Business Loop. PCD CEO Charles Stephenson was inspired to carry the events out by former councilwoman Almeta Crayton.

"We share a passion to make sure that people eat and that people who have needs are met in this community" said Stephenson.

The Salvation Army Center of Hope will hold two dinners at their shelter on Jefferson Street in Jefferson City. They will offer thanksgiving meal delivery due to extra help from volunteers this year. if you want a meal delivered from the Salvation Army call 573-635-1975.

All the organizations say that everyone is welcome and they want everyone to have a thanksgiving meal if possible.
