Columbia commission approves entertainment complex off Discovery Parkway
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia's Planning & Zoning Commission approved a new addition Thursday night to a Discovery Parkway development expansion.
The development called "The Kitchen" is expected to include retail, residential and outdoor recreation. The idea comes from P1316, a company owned by the Odle family, which developed the nearby Aria Apartments.
The Columbia City Council will now have the chance to vote on The Kitchen & Discovery Offices - another addition to the area near the Aria Apartments which is planned to be used for things like bocce ball, concerts and even an ice skating rink.
The 10.64-acre venue will be located at the southwest corner of Discovery Parkway and Endeavor Avenue.
The plans show blueprints for seven lots including a three-story mixed use building with 44 one-bedroom apartments on the second and third floors, and the first floor being used for office and retail spaces.
Developers also want an indoor and outdoor recreation facility with 10 pickleball courts, bocce ball courts, a turf game area, a small stage for live music, an indoor gaming area and a two-story restaurant.
The plans also say that turf area could be converted into a small ice rink in the winter months.
The main focus of this development is the pickleball facility and The Kitchen, which includes the restaurant. The stage is bigger than Rose Music Hall's, but plans from the developer said any large concert would be a rare event.
The venue will face toward Highway 63 to limit sound coming from the space, especially when there's a concert.
