Gas generator sparked fire in a Fulton home ; structure was a total loss

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Fulton Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 818 Vine Street Friday evening just before 8 p.m.

Upon arrival of the first engine company, heavy smoke and flames were showing from the rear of a single-story residential structure, and all occupants were reported out of the structure upon arrival. 

Crews were able to bring the fire under control in approximately one hour. Plus, a search of the structure was completed and confirmed all occupants were out. 

Fulton Fire Department Investigators determined the fire to be accidental.

The owner of the residence was using a gas generator in the basement of the residence for power, which malfunctioned and caught fire. The structure was determined to be a total loss.

Central Callaway Fire Protection District and North Callaway Fire Protection District were requested to the scene for mutual aid assistance.

Fulton Police Department assisted with crowd and traffic control.

Callaway County Ambulance District was on scene for firefighter rehab operations.

Estimated damages are around $60,000.
