Demolition starts on Sorrels Overpass, expect delays
BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Demolition crews will start taking apart the Sorrels Overpass Friday night which will cause some delays on I-70.
MoDOT officials say most of the lane closures near mile marker 122 will take place overnight to minimize traffic concerns.
"So for this week, I would say definitely try to take an alternate route if you can," said Jesse Hinton, Emery Sapp & Sons vice president. "The less traffic we have running running underneath the bridge the safer is going to be for everybody."
A garbage truck hit the Sorrels Overpass on Oct. 18, causing significant damage to the bridge.
MoDOT says there will be digital traffic signs updating drivers on the demolition.
The demolition project is expected to be completed by Monday morning.
"We will use the crane and we will rig the girders up with slings and chains to the crane and we'll lift it off while traffic is not below it," Hinton said. "So we'll use one of the rolling roadblocks with highway patrol in our in our crew that's running traffic control and then we'll we'll pick it off with the crane and swing it over here out of the way."
