Companies looking to hire seasonal employees
Columbia, Mo. (KMIZ)
The United Parcel Services is among the companies searching for workers ahead of the holidays.
UPS is looking to hire 75 seasonal employees in the Jefferson City area during it's "Brown Friday" hiring event. The company aims to hire more than 60,000 employees nationwide to help ensure holiday gifts arrive on time.
Officials with UPS said the company does not have a staffing shortage, but is in competition with other companies that are looking for workers.
The company is looking to hire package delivery drivers, personal vehicle drivers, driver helpers and package handlers.
Chelsea Allison, the human resources director for UPS said that this is a great opportunity for people to get their foot in the door.
"If you come on and take the opportunity for seasonal work it's very likely there's going to be a opportunity for permanent work at the beginning of next year," Allison said.
Anyone interested in applying for a position with UPS can attend the hiring event or find an application on UPS' website.
UPS is also encouraging people to shop for the holidays sooner rather than later.
Kayla Roth, store manger of Glik's in Downtown Columbia, said she is having a difficult time finding holiday help.
"This job works really well with the college students but right now trying to hire for the holidays is dang near impossible everyone is going home, their not going to be here," Roth said.
Kayla says that if a seasonal employee is a good fit, the position can turn permanent.
"I'm more than willing to hire somebody that is seasonal and turn them into a part-time employee," Roth said.
To apply for a position at Glik's you apply in person or print out the application from the store's website.
