MoDOT set to demolish Sorrels Overpass but exact timeline is still in the works
BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
MoDOT said it's set to demolish the Sorrels Overpass as soon as possible after a crash that damaged the bridge on Monday.
According to MoDOT crews at the Overpass on Tuesday morning, the department is scheduled to meet this morning to talk about further action on the overpass.
MoDOT wasn't able to give ABC 17 News an exact timeline of when the demolition would occur along the overpass.
MoDOT told ABC 17 News the Sorrels Overpass will remain closed as well as one lane on westbound I-70. The department said some traffic delays could be expected, especially during the evening commute home for workers.
MoDOT crews at the overpass on Tuesday morning pointed out sagging along one side of the bridge as well as a crack in the pavement caused by the crash, which makes the bridge unsafe for travel.
Previously, MoDOT had planned to complete work on the overpass during 2022, but the work has since been moved up since the crash on Monday, making the bridge unsafe.
ABC 17 News will update this story and our newscasts once demolition of the Sorrels Overpass is scheduled.
