Governor Parson deploys Missouri National Guard to assist with Hurricane Ida
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Gov. Parson has mobilized 300 Missouri National Guard members to assist in post-Hurricane Ida recovery efforts in Louisiana.
“The Missouri National Guard is well-trained and equipped to assist in recovery operations and has done similar missions in the past with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita,” said Maj. Gen. Levon Cumpton, Missouri National Guard Adjutant General. “We are proud to assist our teammates in Louisiana in their time of need.”
The Missouri National Guard is prepared to provide humanitarian support, equipment, debris removal, and general support assistance.
"As our fellow states never fail to come to our aid in times of need, we are proud to answer this call to provide relief to our friends in Louisiana," Gov. Parson added.
Soldiers from 110th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade headquartered in Kansas City and the 35th Engineer Brigade headquartered in Fort Leonard Wood will be sent to assist in Louisiana.
The request for assistance was made through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a mutual aid agreement among states that allows for the sharing of critical resources when needed.
EMAC, according to its website, works in five phases
- Pre-Event Preparation- This includes development of internal procedures and developing mission ready packages.
- Activation- In order to receive resources, a Governor must declare an emergency or disaster
- Request and Offer- Resource requests are sourced beginning with the closest states
- Response- Resources prepare to Mobilize (prepare for their mission), Deploy (conduct the mission in the Requesting State) and Demobilize (return home).
- Reimbursement- Assisting States audit reimbursement packages that are sent to Requesting States who, upon completing an audit and resolving any outstanding issues, issue payment back to the Assisting State.
