JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

As the humanitarian crisis unfolds in Afghanistan, Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri (CCCNMO) is preparing to resettle any Afghan refugees that arrive in Central Missouri.

The charity is working with a national-level sponsoring agency, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the State Department, on responding to the Afghan evacuation for several weeks.

The charity is preparing for Afghan refugees to arrive locally this fall and as early as September.

The charity is requesting for Mid-Missouri to become heavily involved in resettlement. To help with efforts locally, the charity has created a co-sponsorship program for organizations in Central Missouri to be matched with Afghan and other refugees coming from other areas of the world.
