Lawsuit seeks to overturn Second Amendment Preservation Act; shows impact on law enforcement agencies

MGN

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A lawsuit has shed new light on a new Missouri state law on guns about local law enforcements agencies' ability to enforce federal gun laws.

The US Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms filed a memo with those details in a lawsuit seeking to overturn the Second Amendment Preservation Act that stops state police from enforcing federal gun laws.

The court filing said at least 12 Missouri officers dropped out of federal partnerships.

The ATF says Columbia Police have withdrawn four officers from its task force investigating gun crimes. It also stopped submitting gunshot evidence to a national database to try and match it with data already on file.

Sedalia Police withdrew two officers from the ATF task force.

The Second Amendment Preservation Act has not taken effect yet.
