Missouri politicians release comments on the situation in Afghanistan

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Several state and local politicians have expressed their opinions on the situation in Afghanistan.

Gov. Mike Parson (R)

U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO)

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt(R-MO)

Congressman Sam Graves

“The President’s surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban will have serious consequences for generations to come. These are the same people that aided, abetted, and harbored the Al-Qaeda terrorists responsible for the September 11th attacks. Now, they’ve released thousands of terrorists held at Bagram Air Base—including senior Al Qaeda operatives. I have grave concerns that this Administration’s failure to learn from history will doom us all to relive it. The President must immediately lay out a clear, concise, and effective strategy to ensure that Afghanistan does not once again become a training ground and safe haven for terrorists. My thoughts and prayers are with our troops and diplomatic personnel caught in this crisis and with the Afghani people who will undoubtedly suffer greatly under the renewed Taliban regime.”

Congressman Sam Graves (R-MO)

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (R)

One month ago, President Biden declared that the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan was not inevitable and that the Afghan government would not collapse. Today, he could not be more wrong as the Taliban has overtaken the country and President Ghani has fled Afghanistan.

With this latest act of incompetence, the Biden administration’s track record of repeated negligence has resulted in crises at our border, in our communities, and now overseas in the Middle East.

In Afghanistan, gone and lost are decades of progress for women, who will now see their advances crushed under Sharia Law. I pray for them on this somber day and condemn our current administration for their bungled and failed withdrawal from Afghanistan.
