COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Biden administration plans to deploy surge response teams to hot spots across the country where the Delta variant presents the most risk to unvaccinated Americans.

The state's vaccine dashboard shows just over 39% of Missourians are fully vaccinated, and 44.5% have initiated vaccination.

As cases continue to rise in Missouri, the White House is eyeing the Show-Me state as one of the first places that surge response teams could deploy. So far, the sewershed surveillance project shows the Delta variant in five cities in Mid-Missouri including, Columbia, Jefferson City, Fulton, Mexico, and Eldon.

According to the state's COVID-19 dashboard Friday, the positivity rate is now sitting at 9.2% for the first time since Jan. 24.

With the Fourth of July around the corner, the CDC still recommends avoiding large gatherings. If you are attending a small gathering the CDC said if you are fully vaccinated you can gather in a home or private setting without a mask with other fully vaccinated individuals.

The CDC said those who are unvaccinated should continue to wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart.
