JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Missouri Supreme Court has ruled that a $3 court fee to pay for sheriffs' retirement is unconstitutional.

Judges on Tuesday ruled that the sheriffs' retirement fund is not related to the administration of justice, meaning those fees are not allowed.

The case at hand deals with two drivers who were charged the fee by Kansas City, Missouri municipal courts.

Attorneys for the men who originally sued are asking that the ruling be expanded to drivers statewide.
