TUESDAY UPDATES: Missouri DHSS adds 36 coronavirus related deaths after analyzing death certificates
Missouri DHSS has added 36 COVID-19 related deaths after the state’s disease surveillance system analyzed several death certificates.
Officials say the deaths will be captured and reported publicly through the dashboard Tuesday.
Of the 36 deaths:
- one in September
- one in November
- eight in January
- 18 in March
- eight in April
Officials at DHSS report the weekly activity typically causes a sharp increase in the deaths added to Missouri’s total the following day. DHSS is now regularly analyzing death certificates on Mondays.
Officials say the state does not track probable or pending deaths.
Boone County active coronavirus cases continue to drop
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting 17 new COVID-19 cases for the Memorial Day weekend.
There are currently 38 active cases in the county.
The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 18,542.
The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 18,388.
The health department is reporting four Boone County residents are in the hospital due to the coronavirus.
The State of Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard is reporting that 87,099 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 74,650 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.
Boone County has the largest percentage of people in Mid-Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 48.3%. The second closest in the state is St. Louis County with 45.8%.
Boone County is first in the state with a reported 41.2% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Charles County is second in the state with 37.7% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination.
Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 38.6%. Montgomery and Salline County are tied for third with 34.4%.
Missouri sees four days with no new COVID-19 deaths
According to the state health dashboard, no new deaths were reported Tuesday, marking the fourth day in a row the state has reported a total of 9,080 deaths from COVID-19.
On Tuesday, the seven-day average of vaccinations given out per day increased to 10,706.
41.7% of the state population has initiated vaccination against COVID-19 and 2,125,591 are fully vaccinated.
Missouri's seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate was at 4.3%.
The increase in positivity came with 114 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19. The total number of confirmed cases throughout the pandemic is 511,666.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services also recorded 67 additional probable cases of the coronavirus discovered through antigen testing, bringing the total to 88,051.
