Food Bank plans to move Central Pantry to new location
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri plans to move its Central Pantry to a new location in Columbia.
According to the organization, Central Pantry is expected to move into the Moser's grocery store off of Business Loop 70 West near Interstate 70 as soon as 2023.
"For years, the Food Bank dreamed of finding a new home for Central Pantry - a home with the space accessibility needed for us to improve our work to address hunger in our community," said Lindsay Lopez, president and CEO of the Food Bank.
Renovations are planned for the building on the Business Loop before Central Pantry moves into its new home.
Currently, Central Pantry is located off of Big Bear Boulevard in north Columbia.
The Food Bank reportedly agreed to buy the property on Business Loop 70 from Moser's earlier this year.
"We are relocating the Moser's store to create a modern and efficient retail supermarket design," said Roger Moser, owner of Moser's Foods.
Moser's plans to move the store on the Business Loop to a new building on Scott Boulevard in about nine months.
The new facility is expected to provide the Food Bank with additional cold storage and freezer space.
According to the Food Bank, it helps more than 10,000 Boone County residents a month.
