Moberly woman sentenced to 10 years for smuggling gun in body cavity into Boone County Jail

A Moberly woman was sentenced to ten years in a Missouri Department of Corrections facility after smuggling a gun into the Boone County Jail back in February.

On Feb. 14, Columbia police arrested Amy Wilhite for drug related offenses and took her to Boone County Jail.

In March, Boone County Jail detention staff reported Amy Wilhite hid a gun in a body cavity and snuck it into the jail.

Officials believe Wilhite removed the firearm from her body and concealed it within her personal belongings while being housed with other inmates. .Officials at the jail found the gun during a search of the housing unit.

In April, Wilhite pleaded guilty to the charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

Wilhite was sentenced to five years for each charge.
