Chiefs fall in season finale after resting starters

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Chiefs backups lost to the Chargers, 38-21, in the regular season finale on Sunday.

Kansas City had already clinched the one-seed in the AFC, so its final matchup of the season was meaningless for playoff positioning. KC finished the year 14-2.

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Frank Clark and many other starters had the day off to rest for the postseason.

Chad Henne started at quarterback for the Chiefs. He was 23/32 for 218 yards and two touchdowns.

Darwin Thompson was all over the field for Kansas City. He finished with 110 total yards and two touchdowns.

Kansas City will be off for Wild Card weekend. The Chiefs will host the lowest seed remaining in the divisional round in two weeks.
