Rock Bridge softball wins first ever state title

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Rock Bridge softball team beat Lee's Summit North, 1-0, on Friday to capture its first ever state championship. It's also the first time a Columbia high school has ever won a state softball title.

The Bruins finished the season a perfect 29-0. Rock Bridge pitcher Ella Schouten pitched a complete game shutout in her final game in a Bruin uniform.

Rock Bridge's Maddie Snider broke up the Lee's Summit North no-hitter in the sixth inning with a triple. Later in the inning, Cydney Fullerton brought Snider home with a sacrifice fly. That would be the deciding run.

We will have full highlights and reaction from Rock Bridge's historic day on the diamond at 9 on Fox 22 and again at 10 on ABC 17!

On Saturday - Tolton will look to become the second Columbia high school softball team to win a state title. The Lady Blazers will face Penney at 3 p.m. in Springfield.
