Battle football game against Smith-Cotton canceled due to COVID-19

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE 6:08 p.m. - Battle will now play at Moberly on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Battle football game against Smith-Cotton on Friday night is canceled due to COVID-19 concerns in the Tigers program.

Battle athletic Director Alex Huck said the Spartans are close to finding a new opponent, but nothing is confirmed at this time.

The Spartans recently started practicing again after their own COVID-19 concerns. Battle had to cancel its game against Hickman on Sept. 18. The Spartans also did not play last week because its originally scheduled opponent, Crete-Monee (IL), had its season canceled back in August.

Battle is 2-1 on the season, but the Spartans have not played since Sept. 11.

In other COVID-19 related high school football news - Centralia will now play at Cuba on Friday at 7 p.m. The Panthers originally scheduled game against Highland was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns with the Cougars.
