Tailgating prohibited on University property for first home game
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia/Boone County Health Department prohibits tailgating on University property for the Mizzou football game Saturday.
The health department assistant director, Scott Clardy, said tailgating outside of university property is allowed but must be kept to 20 people or fewer.
"If we are out and about and we see it we will be stopping and addressing that and asking people to disperse," Clardy said.
The health department does not plan to police the tailgates, but if they receive complaints about large gatherings, they will address the problem.
The health department also sent a letter to bar and restaurant owners, reminding them of the health order restrictions
Bars and restaurants will still be closing by 10:30 p.m, all customers must wear a mask if they are not seated, and all tables and groups must be socially distant and limited to 10 people or less.
"We want everyone to have a good time but we need everyone to stay safe and we need for them to protect themselves so they could in turn protect their loved ones so they spread the disease, this has the potential to be a 'super-spreader' event," Clardy said.
The health department confirmed no violations for tailgating have been given out at this time.
