Boone Electric Cooperative crews to help with hurricane recovery as MOTF1 heads home

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri Task Force 1 is heading home as Boone Electric Cooperative prepares to send crews to help with hurricane recovery.

Officials announced Friday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) demobilized Missouri Task Force 1.

The team is expected to arrive home early Saturday afternoon.

The task force first arrived in Texas on Wednesday morning. They helped with searches and damage assessments. The crews traveled from Columbia to College Station and visited Houston and Jasper and Newton Counties.

Meanwhile, Boone Electric Cooperative is preparing to send a ten linemen crew along with five trucks to DeRidder, Louisiana. The team is expected to help with rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Laura swept through the southwest part of the state.

According to a news release, the Beauregard Electric Cooperative, near the Texas border, asked for help after a power outage affected nearly all of its 41,000 members.

Officials said that crews will be taking precautions to stay safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes staying in tents with special air filters and spaced out beds. The team plans to stay for at least 10 days.
