Man detained for threatening people with a knife in Columbia

COLUMBIA Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police say they detained a man who allegedly threatened people with a knife in downtown Columbia on Friday night.

Reports say around 8:25 p.m. Gabriel Falls, 28, of Columbia, was walking with a nine-inch blade and threatening people in the area of E Walnut St. and Ninth St.

Upon arrival, reports say officers saw Falls with a knife "giving verbal commands." Falls proceeded to run away from officers with his hands behind his back shouting "shoot me."

Reports say Falls dropped the knife near the 800 block of East Broadway but continued to resist arrest. In order to detain the suspect, officers made a forcible arrest by displaying their taser and forcing the suspect to the ground.

Falls was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated.

Upon release, officials say Falls will be charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon, assault on a law enforcement officer, property damage and felony resisting.
