University of Missouri System president to fill in as chancellor of Columbia campus

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The University of Missouri Board of Curators voted Wednesday to make UM System President Mun Choi the interim chancellor of the system's main campus.

The board voted unanimously to give Choi the additional powers after current Chancellor Alexander Cartwright took a job as president of the University of Central Florida. Cartwright starts his new job April 13.

Choi was hired as president of the system in March 2017. His salary will not change with the new appointment.

"In addition to this appointment, the Board intends to evaluate the organizational structure of the University and will not initiate a new chancellor search at this time," curators Chair Julia Brncic said in a statement sent to the campus Thursday.

Cartwright started work at MU in 2017.

News that Cartwright was a finalist for the job broke just days before leaders at UCF made their decision last week. Florida's Board of Governors approved Cartwright's hiring last week.

He will earn a base salary of $600,000 in his first year in Orlando plus incentives and other pay. Cartwright's MU base salary in 2019 was $502,000.
