Mid-Missouri schools begin to dismiss early as wintry mix falls

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Schools in the western part of Mid-Missouri were calling early dismissals Wednesday as radar indicated a wintry mix falling.

Brunswick, Marshall and Salisbury public schools all called early dismissals. Marshall Public Schools were the earliest to dismiss, at 11:30 a.m.

A full list of closings and early dismissals is available by clicking here.

Precipitation is expected to continue Wednesday afternoon as a wintry mix. Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing though, which could minimize travel impacts. In Columbia, a 22-person public works crew reported at 7 a.m. Wednesday to get ready for wintry precipitation expected later in the day.

More problems could arise Thursday morning after the mix switches over to mostly snow overnight.

A larger system is expected to hit Mid-Missouri on Thursday afternoon. The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather team has issued a Weather Alert Day for Thursday and Friday ahead of that system.
