Airport traffic increasing for the holiday season

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Thanksgiving Day kicks off the busy holiday travel season.

"Starting now through the Christmas season we'll see an increase in traffic here at Columbia Regional Airport," said airport manager Mike Parks. "We always like to remind passengers to make sure they show up plenty early for their boarding times."

Parks said the weather across the United States ahead of Thanksgiving also impacted travelers. He said travelers should double-check with the airlines before leaving to make sure their flights have not been delayed or rescheduled.

"It's always important to make sure you flight is on time, but especially with recent weather it's a good idea to stay in touch with your airline," Parks said.

ABC 17 News crews at the airport Thursday morning saw additional security and ticket agents to accommodate the extra passengers. Parks said the city would not add extra airport staff on Thanksgiving.
