Jefferson City to launch mass notification system

The Jefferson City Police Department is working to roll out a mass notification system.

The Rave Alert System will allow city officials to send out alerts simultaneously via text, email, voice, IPAWS-OPEN, WebEOC and digital signage.

The city will also be launching Rave’s 911 system, which creates a database of the emergency information of those who sign up for the app, and provides that information to 911 operators ahead of time. See the chart below:

Lincoln University adopted and made the first use of a different version of the RAVE system called Rave Guardian in April.

The guardian app was also utilized during a shooting incident Wednesday, which prompted a brief lockdown on campus.

“Rave Alert is a one way mass notification system (university uses it to alert students for bad weather, emergencies, etc.) whereas Rave Guardian is a 2-way personal safety app that allows organizations (universities, businesses, etc.) to communicate to users through texting but also allows users (mainly students or employees) to use an anonymous tip line and location sharing as well as have access to a call directory and a content portal (for things like evacuation plans).”
