Jefferson City discusses zoning two types of medical marijuana facilities

Jefferson City Planning and Zoning commissioners approved regulations for medical marijuana testing and transportation facilities Thursday evening.

Missourians approved Amendment 2 in November, legalizing medicinal marijuana. State officials are now reviewing applications for dispensaries and cultivation and manufacturing facilities for marijuana products.

The planning and zoning commission approved zoning medical marijuana testing and transportation facilities in C-2 zoning districts as a permitted use.

C-2 zoning is used for retail spaces such as pharmacies, liquor stores and tobacco shops.

The Jefferson City Council approved zoning medicinal marijuana dispensaries in C-2 and C-1 districts at its meeting July 15.

Jefferson City has received one application for a testing facility.

The applicant is requesting to open a testing facility at 1616 Industrial Drive where the Cole County Health Department was previously located, according to the application.

Medical marijuana facilities cannot be within 1,000 feet of a school, church or daycare.

The commission’s recommendation will go before the city council for a public hearing Oct 21. The city council has the ultimate approval for the zoning regulation.
