Man accused of damaging Jefferson City school with sledgehammer

A Jefferson City man was charged on Monday after he was accused of damaging a Jefferson City high school with a sledgehammer.

James R. McLellan, 29, allegedly went into Jefferson City High School on July 30 and began hitting things with a sledgehammer, according to court documents.

The victim told police repairs for the damage would cost about $3,000, court documents said.

Police were able to identify McLellan through surveillance footage and brought him in for questioning at the beginning of August. McLellan admitted to being the person in the footage, court documents said.

McLellan was charged with first-degree property damage and is expected in court in October.
