Court documents: Man leads authorities on high-speed chase
Prosecutors charged a man in Cole County in connection with a high-speed chase.
According to court documents, the chase started after the suspect’s vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run crash.
Authorities said an officer saw the suspect vehicle in the area of Highway 54 and Highway 179 around 8 p.m. Monday. The probable cause statement said the vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic, speeding and failing to use turn signals when switching lanes. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over near Highway 54 and Monticello Road, but the vehicle continued on, sometimes at speeds up to 104 mph.
Authorities said they used spike strips to deflate a tire in Miller County and the vehicle eventually pulled into a gas station on Shore Drive. Court documents said the driver, identified as Mark Wolfmeier, got out of the car and tried to go into the gas station, but deputies grabbed him and put him on the ground. Wolfmeier was taken into custody at 8:34 p.m., authorities said.
According to court documents, Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to the scene to look at injuries Wolfmeier suffered during the struggle with law enforcement.
